Openwork basket weave is a wonderful knitting stitch that's really quick and pretty easy to knit and makes a wonderful stitch for a scarf. All simply completed with a combination of knit (k), purl (p), cast on and bind off stitches to get some very unique designs.

Knitting instructions:
Cast on: Multiple of 10 stitches + 7 + edge stitches.
Row 1: edge sts, (p7, k3), rep ( ) to last sts, p7, edge sts.
Row 2: edge sts, (k7, p3), rep ( ) to last sts, k7, edge sts
Row 3: repeat row 1
Row 4: repeat row 2
Row 5: edge sts, (p1, bind off 5 sts , p1, k3), rep ( ) to last sts, p1, bind off 5 sts, p1, edge sts
Row 6: edge sts,(k1, cast on 5 sts, k1, p3), rep ( ) to last sts, k1, cast on 5 sts, k1, edge sts

Rows 7 -> 10: Repeat row 1 -> row 4.
Row 11. edge sts, p2, (k3, p7), rep ( ) to last sts, k3, p2, edge sts
Row 12: edge sts,k2, (p3, k7), rep ( ) to last sts, p3, k2, edge sts
Row 13: repeat row 11
Row 14: repeat row 12.
Row 15: edge sts, p2, (k3, p1, bind off 5 sts, p1), rep ( ) to last sts, k3, p2, edge sts
Row 16: edge sts, k2, (p3, k1, cast on 5 sts, k1), rep ( ) to last sts, p3, k2, edge sts
Rows 17 ->20: Repeat rows 11 -> 14
Repeat rows 1-20 until you have reached your desired length.
