Here's one to get you started - knotted rib stitch pattern. This tempting textured stitch is easy enough for beginner knitters to try.
Knitting instructions:Cast on: multiples of 2sts + 1.
Row 1: Purl 1, * knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end.
Row 2: Knit 1, * purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end.
Row 3: Repeat row 1.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Repeat row 1.
Row 6: Repeat row 2.
Row 7: Purl 1, *knit 3 sts in next st (knitting front loop, then back loop, then front loop), purl 1; repeat * to end.
Row 8: Knit 1, * purl 3 sts together as 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end.
Repeat rows 1-8 until you have reached your desired length.
